BEGINNER TIPS
You can easily scroll around a window in the Mac OS 8.5 Finder by holding down the Command key and dragging your cursor around the window. Dragging down causes the window to scroll down and dragging sideways - as you might expect - scrolls the window to the side. Diagonal scrolling works too.

You can have a nearly authentic PlayStation experience on your desktop G3 Mac, PowerBook G3, or iMac with these few items: a copy of Connectix' PlayStation emulator, Virtual Game Station, a PlayStation controller, Kernel Productions' JoyPort adapter and - if you want to use the iMac - Griffin Technologies' iMate USB-to-ADB adapter.

The key to this puzzle is Kernel's JoyPort. This $50 doodad allows you to connect a PlayStation controller (it also accommodates Genesis and Nintendo 64 controllers) to your Mac. Just install the JoyPort software, plug the JoyPort into a spare ADB port, connect your PlayStation controller, fire up Virtual Game Station, and prepare for that authentic PlayStation experience.

If you have an iMac, you must use Griffin's iMate USB-to-ADB adapter as well as the iMate driver (available from Griffin's website). A USB version of the JoyPort is reportedly in the works, but for now you'll need the adapter.

You can find information on the JoyPort at http://www.kernel.com and iMate info at http://www.griffintechnology.com

This subtle improvement may have escaped the notice of veteran Mac users: Unlike in previous version of the Mac OS, under Mac OS 8.0 and later, you can move windows about by not only clicking and dragging on a window's title bar, but also by clicking and dragging on any of the window's borders.
